The Journal Star asked readers: What amenities do you most want downtown?

In the online poll, respondents overwhelmingly favored getting a full-service grocery store. It had 214 votes, compared with the next-highest response demanding more parking.

“We want a grocery store!” Jake Wolf said. “The biggest downside to living downtown is that there’s no grocery store. Trader Joe’s would make gobs of money down here.”

Work is underway on Canopy Row, a redevelopment project along Canopy Street between N and O streets, that will have a full-service market.

Many poll responses focused on transportation. "Lincoln needs to figure out how to be an actual city downtown,” Ella Mook said. “Transportation isn’t accommodating; bike lanes aren’t thought out, putting bikers in danger.”

Jamie Conklin’s wish? “Outdoor heaters in beer gardens!”
