Police arrived at a report of vehicles racing to see a Range Rover and a GMC pickup take off. Police later learned both vehicles had been stolen after being left parked in front of a home nearby unlocked with the keys inside.
Officer Erin Spilker said officers saw the driver, Daniel Medley, go into a home and come back out after being confronted by the 77-year-old man who lives there.
Police said the man who had been driving the city bus and a witness held down the suspect, who allegedly had tried to drive away but only got half a block in the damaged SUV.
A trooper saw the driver discard a cigarette out the window of a Jeep Patriot while it was stopped at 27th and O streets and learned the vehicle had been reported stolen.
