Organizers last week turned to a specially trained dog team in the painstaking search for the Genoa Indian School cemetery. Within hours, the dogs identified a possible location.
The search effort late last year used ground-penetrating radar at 12 different areas that were once apart of the 640-acre campus in Genoa.
“There’s no one experience of what it was to describe boarding school,” said Judi gaiashkibos of the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs. “Every person has a different story to tell, and some, like my mother, didn’t tell the stories."
