I would still be laughing if it weren’t so serious after reading Rep. Jeff Fortenberry’s Local View ("Strive for unity that inspired founders," July 4).
I laud him for reminding us of the ideals our founders strived for -- and achieved -- and then he mentions the discord and other ills going on in our nation.
But nowhere does he lay blame on who’s been perpetuating it -- his, I presume, hero and idol -- the person now in the White House from whose mouth spews such vile venom and who has, amazingly, even managed to turn the “swamp” into a cesspool.
Here’s a suggestion, Mr. Fortenberry: Send a copy of your piece to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and please circle the last seven words of the last sentence you wrote: “with respect, with civility and with duty."
Maybe someone will explain to Mr. Trump what they mean, how vital they are to our democracy and to please stop eroding it with divisiveness and hate. It is absolutely amazing!
