Congratulations to the newly elected mayor and newly elected members and re-elected member of the Lincoln City Council. I would ask if the following items might be considered as you begin to serve the citizens of Lincoln:
* Consider the possibility of fulfilling Mayor Chris Beutler's pledge to make temporary the highest wheel tax in the state of Nebraska. Reducing the current $74 for passenger vehicles, down to a possible $54, since the city sales tax will be bringing in $13 million per year for six years.
* Consider not using the property tax windfall from the coming new property valuations as part of the next budget.
You have free articles remaining.
* Make it a top priority to spend hard-earned Lincoln taxpayers' dollars on needs verses wants and to make these decisions in a transparent manner so that all citizens can actually know how their tax dollars are being spent and for what.
There is a large portion of citizens in this city whose candidates were not successful in the recent election. It would go a long way with these citizens if these items could be considered by our newly elected city government officials and, by doing so, hopefully restoring some faith in this city's government.
