NU baseball vs. Arizona State, 5.11

Nebraska coach Darin Erstad talks with his players following a 2-1 victory over Arizona State on May 11 at Haymarket Park.

To the coaches and players on the Nebraska baseball team, we want to say thanks for a wonderful year.

We went to all the home games and to Iowa for away games. We sat through rain, cold and warm games but wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

The boys played all year with poise and maturity beyond their years and never gave up. Thanks, seniors, for all the help and guidance you gave to the younger players, as we know they appreciated all you did. You guys, hold your heads up because you played with courage and passion, and we love all of you.

Coach Darin Erstad took on a big job when Nebraska really needed a boost and coached well for eight wonderful years. We know he loved the job and the boys and always spoke with wisdom and encouragement.

We will deeply miss him but understand his wanting to fulfill his fatherly job. No one will ever know all the sacrifices he made to do the good job he did.

So, coaches and boys, thanks for the memories of a wonderful year, and God bless you always.

Denny and Karen Mattheis, Lincoln
