LPS graduation, 5/27/18

Lincoln High graduates listen to senior speakers during their graduation ceremony Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the Devaney Sports Center.

In addition to looking backward this Memorial Day weekend, we must also look forward.

On Sunday, 2,762 students from Lincoln’s six public high schools will walk across stages at Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Devaney Center to receive their diplomas. They’ll join hundreds more who have already graduated from area schools and have their names listed in this edition of the Journal Star.

As teens move their tassels from right to left, they’ve no doubt been inundated by words of support and advice for achieving this milestone.

We’ll offer just two more: Celebrate today.

After 13 years of schooling and shared experience, the commencement ceremony is where paths begin to diverge. College, trade school, military service, work or a gap year may await you and your classmates. Whichever it is, savor your achievement – in a safe manner, please – but always stay hungry on your chosen path.

A high school diploma is just the start of the exciting journey ahead. Accordingly, this accomplishment deserves at least one day to enjoy with family and friends before charging boldly into the future.
