PAPILLION - The Lincoln Senior Men's Golf League finally got a break from the four weeks of rain we’ve had and basked in a sunny, warm day on May 8 for the Variable shamble at Tara Hills Golf Course in Papillion. Since Flight A played from the white tees, while B and C teed off from the gold, there was some good-natured sniping heard!
The Shamble format used 60% of a player’s handicap. Once the team chose the best drive everyone played their own ball to the cup. One score was recorded on par 3’s, two on par 4’s and three on par 5’s.
The course was in great condition; greens were true and smooth, fairways lush, and the rough was trimmed down and dry, so guys were able to find balls much easier than in previous years. Flag prizes were awarded on two holes with Bill Rainey winning the closest tee shot on Hole No. 3 and Ron Christiansen making the Longest Putt on Hole No. 14.
The next Fun Day was held Monday (May 15) at Woodland Hills. Hopefully league play can continue without rain next week.
