The Lincoln Tennis Buddies program will kick-off the indoor season Saturday, Jan. 12.
New athletes and volunteers are invited to practices on Saturdays from 4-5 p.m. at Genesis Racquet Club, 5300 Old Cheney Road. Currently 18 special athletes of all ability levels are in the program.
The Lincoln Tennis Buddies program is a partnership of athletes with intellectual disabilities and tennis enthusiasts in the Lincoln area. This program supplements opportunities provided to the athletes via Special Olympics Nebraska.
Phil Wolfe coordinates the program. Wolfe is a retired physical education teacher from Lincoln Public Schools. He was the Nebraska tennis coach for the 2010 National Special Olympic Games.
Volunteers are adults and high school/college tennis enthusiasts. They are asked to help one Saturday per month. The Tennis Buddies practice runs from January through August.
