The June 11 Lincoln Senior Men's Golf League Fun Day in Nebraska City has usually meant a challenge from the weather. But this year, sunshine and moderate winds greeted the 128 players in the three flights that navigated the scenic course.
A move back to the white tees enhanced several holes, and the numbers reflected the increased difficulty as scores were 2-4 strokes higher than in 2017.
Low score was from Flight A with a 61, which was 3 strokes higher than the previous year. Pin prizes were awarded on holes 11 and 18, with Doug McClelland winning closest to the pin on the first shot and Mike Owens winning longest putt.
Flight A-First Place-Score 61-Larry Honeycutt, Bob Wesslund, Bill Rainey and Shorty Harris; Second Place-Score 61-Craig Tische, Doug Emery, James Smith and Roger Tenopir; Third Place-Score 62-Steve Ferris, Tom Bergquist, J.J. Johnson and Dan Stahr.
Flight B-First Place-Score 62-Darrell Schmidt, Larry Roach, Randy Abbott and Mike Abbott; Second Place-Score 66-Myron Thoreson, Tim Spoeneman, Chin Chung and Gary Westerhoff; Third Place-Score 66-Virgil Horne, Mike Owens, Mike Dalton and Merle Jahde.
