Ian Cuevas and Amanah Morgan, both members of Venturing Crew 21 of Lincoln, became the first two youths in the Cornhusker Council to earn the Venturing Summit Award, presented March 15.
The Summit Award is the highest achievement in venturing and goes to venturers who have matured in their personal direction, skills and life competencies, and who have accepted the responsibility to mentor others and serve their communities in a lasting way. Similar to the Boy Scouts BSA Eagle Scout Award, both youth completed significant service and leadership projects that they planned and directed, in this case benefiting Fort Kearny State Historical Park.
Venturing Crew 21, sponsored by Hope Community Church of Lincoln, is one of several crews in Lincoln that serve young men and women, ages 14-21. Venturing is one of the core programs of scouting and emphasizes youth-led adventure, leadership, personal growth and service. In addition to high adventure, Crew 21 focuses on historical reenacting. These include a variety of time periods including Viking, Civil War and World War II.
Venturing Crew 21 is led by President Cole Cressler and adult Adviser Robert Cuevas.
