Nearly 450 chocolate lovers attended the 32nd Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy event, which returned to Embassy Suites Feb. 9.
“We moved back to Embassy Suites mainly because of the issue of getting a date booked at Pinnacle Bank Arena, but we also thought we would try the more intimate atmosphere of Embassy again,” said Diane Cunningham, who co-chaired the event with her husband Jeff.
The event brings chefs together with chocolate connoisseurs to raise money for Historic Haymarket District community events.
"Proceeds will help promote the historic nature of the Haymarket District with historic building plaques and a walking tour," Cunningham said. "The funding also supports Haymarket community events such as Holidays in the Haymarket and the Haymarket Farmers' Market."
Harris Academy of the Arts provided live entertainment.
Celebrity judges were Jon and Taryn Vanderford from 10/11 News and Jeff Korbelik from the Lincoln Journal Star. General manager Steve Engel from Buzzard Billy’s and Chris Goforth, formerly of KFOR, also judged this year’s event.
“For the first time in 32 years, after hundreds of people voted, Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy has a tie for the People’s Choice Award, announced Bill Schammert of 10/11 News, who co-emceed the event with Carol Turner of KFOR Radio. “One of the People’s Choice winners is Nama Choco, for the fourth year in a row, and the other winner is Bethany Café.”
Other winners were Embassy Suites, Most Creative Use of Chocolate; Chez Hay, Most Delectable Chocolate; and City of Lincoln, Most creative table theme with “Star City Saloon.”
