Chef booths, from local chocolatiers to restaurants displaying their sweet and savory goodies, filled the floor of the Pinnacle Bank Arena at the 31st annual Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy Jan. 14.
Chefs stood ready to explain their take on chocolate treats and invite guests to enjoy. A steady flow of guests visited table after table until they could sample no more.
Some notable dishes were Buzzard Billy’s jalapeno bacon covered in ghost pepper chocolate. Chez Hay, winner of the Most Creative Use of Chocolate, featured homemade pie-themed chocolate fudge – apple, blueberry and pumpkin.
Chocolate makers were asked to design interesting tables, such as Lazlo’s Brewery and Grill’s display, which featured a completely edible Haymarket-themed Monopoly Board. Lazlo’s won the chef award for Most Unique Table Design.
First-year chocolatier Adam Hurt of Chocolates by Adam received the Most Delectable Chocolate award. Winning the People’s Choice award for the fourth year in a row was Shinya Takahashi of Nama Chocolate, fresh Japanese chocolate.
Darryl White provided delightful jazz music for the evening. Also featured was an impressive silent auction with everything from hotel stays to gift baskets to restaurant packages.
Chocolate Lover’s Fantasy is a fundraising event for the Historic Haymarket’s nonprofit organization, the Lincoln Haymarket Development Corporation. LHDC’s mission is to protect, preserve, promote and enhance the historic nature of the district. This year, funds were raised for the historic building plaques and the Haymarket walking tour.
