Flags will fly at half-staff in Hastings and at the state Capitol and Governor's Mansion on Friday, the day family and friends will celebrate the life of Sen. Dennis Utter, who died Tuesday.
Services for Utter, 72, of Hastings will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.
The retired banker died after suffering for about a year from a lung condition, said his wife, Kathy.
She said he spent Christmas at home with his family and went back into the hospital Tuesday morning.

Utter had filed to run for re-election before he got sick.
The couple have two sons, a daughter and six grandchildren.
