The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System and CHI Health are partnering to develop a community living center at Midlands Hospital. The $11 million center will provide short-stay rehabilitation, skilled nursing care and memory care to veterans.

CHI Health and the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System are partnering to open the 30,000-square-foot, 34-bed center on the fifth and sixth floors of the hospital at 11111 S. 84th St.

The center, which is under construction, is designed to provide short-stay rehabilitation, skilled nursing care and memory care to veterans.

Located just miles away from Offutt Air Force Base, the center is slated to open next spring. The agreement calls for CHI Health to make approximately $11 million in improvements to the two floors. The VA would then lease the space for 10 years with an option to extend the lease.

The Veterans United Foundation contributed $250,000 toward a $2 million healing pavilion project at Midlands Hospital in Papillion. The pavilion is part of a new VA Community Living Center project being constructed within the hospital.

The pavilion will be visible from the center and will include several sections, including a gathering space for special events, a flag garden with salutes to all military branches and quiet spaces for reflection and meditation. Also included is an active space with a half basketball court and areas where visitors and staff can engage in physical activity.

The CHI Health Midlands Foundation continues to raise funds for the healing pavilion project, which will cost a total of $2 million.
