Raymond Central students got the day off Monday in the wake of Sunday's storms, primarily because of a power outage in Ceresco, junior-senior high school Principal Kolin Haecker said.

But the district’s four schools — the junior-senior high school and elementary schools in Ceresco and Valparaiso — escaped damage, Haecker said.

“They were undamaged,” he said. “Maybe a little water, but nothing we haven’t seen before.”

Administrators decided to cancel school Monday because of the power outage as well as downed trees and power lines on the roads. Some families’ homes were damaged, too, including one seventh-grader whose home was completely destroyed.
