HERSHEY — Three people died after two semitrailers collided on Interstate 80 in western Nebraska just before 6:30 Sunday evening.

The Nebraska State Patrol said an eastbound semi hauling lettuce crossed the median near Hershey and hit a westbound truck carrying cars, then sideswiped a car. Both trucks erupted in flames. The car sustained minor damage.

The driver of the eastbound semi, Hieu Trung Le, and a passenger, Duy Trong Dao, died at the scene, as did the driver of the westbound semi, Zurabi Mdzeluri. Le, 56, was from San Jose, California; Dao, 31, was from Sacramento, California, and Mdzeluri, 37, was from Brooklyn, New York.

No one in the car was injured.
