NORTH PLATTE — The Lincoln County board has voted to remove the county treasurer and name a replacement.
County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to oust Lorie Koertner and appoint Sue Fleck to replace her. Fleck retired from the office in January after deciding not to seek re-election. Koertner ran unopposed in November after winning the Republican primary last May.
The commissioners didn't provide any specifics regarding Koertner but cited a state law in removing her "for neglecting or refusing to render any account or settlement required by law, and failing or neglecting to account for any balance due the state, county, township, school district or any other municipal subdivision or is guilty of any other misconduct in office."
Koertner didn't immediately return a call Tuesday seeking comment.

The board's action was a "culmination of events over the last couple of months," said board chairman Joe Hewgley. Money related to North Platte Public Schools District was involved, he said, and there may be other instances.
Although it appeared Koertner wasn't fulfilling the duties of her office, he had no reason to suspect Koertner of any criminal activity, Hewgley said.
"We met at length with board counsel and the county attorney and think it's in the best interest of Lincoln County to remove Koertner," he said.
The commissioners also decided to ask the Nebraska state auditor's office to review the county financial books but not perform a full audit.
