The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District has implemented a new program to help landowners establish cover crops that help control erosion and make the soil more productive.
Applications need to be submitted by Oct. 1 for the Cover Crop Program. Landowners can receive up to $2,000 annually on qualifying land in targeted watersheds, in a community water system protection area or in designated phase two or phase three groundwater management areas within the district.
Natural Resources Conservation Service offices in Lancaster, Cass, Otoe, Seward, Butler and Saunders counties can help determine land eligibility and help with completing the application process.
