Lincoln Premium Poultry's feed mill is under construction near Fremont in 2017. It is part of a poultry processing complex that will include a hatchery and a processing plant.

FREMONT — Fremont police Friday identified the 56-year-old construction worker killed in a fall this week at the Costco chicken processing plant.

Melvin E. Balaban, of Crete, suffered fatal injuries in a 40-foot fall Thursday morning from where he and another man were working at the plant's hatchery building still under construction.

Balaban died at the scene.

Another worker, Caleb M. Sabatka, 26, of Beatrice, was trapped 30 feet above the ground and had to be freed by rescue workers. Sabatka was taken by helicopter to CHI Creighton University Bergan Mercy in Omaha. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
