A 31-year-old Columbus was killed Friday in a one-vehicle accident a few miles west of North Bend, according to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacob W. Schamp, released information shows, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by law enforcement. The accident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 30 near County Road 2.
An investigation determined that a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Schamp was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 30 when the SUV went off the right (south) side of the highway and rolled, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Schamp was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and speed is being considered a factor in the accident, the sheriff's office said.
