OMAHA — Police in Omaha say a 16-year-old mom who gave birth in her apartment early Friday tossed the infant girl out a second-story window.
Officers responded to the Kellom-Knolls Apartment complex just north of the Creighton University campus around 4:15 a.m. after the baby's grandmother called 911 and said a baby may have been tossed from the window.
In a news release, Omaha Police said the 16-year-old was alone in her bedroom when she went into labor. After throwing the infant from the window, she told her mother, who went outside, found the child and called 911.
The baby was pronounced dead at CHI Creighton University Medical Center. The baby's mother was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police have not released the names of the infant or her mother and charges are pending. An autopsy will be performed.
