Nebraska State Patrol Trooper John Lewis will be the guest of Sen. Ben Sasse at Tuesday's State of the Union address to Congress by President Donald Trump.

In December, Lewis led an effort to provide aid to families in Florida affected by Hurricane Irma, recruiting and matching Nebraskans with 14 families to provide assistance and supplies.

"This is just what Nebraskans do — serve and love your neighbor," Lewis said.

"Our state is full of men and women who lean in and solve problems every single day."

Sasse said Lewis and the Nebraskans who provided assistance are "shining examples of what makes our communities so great."

"Nebraskans know we can count on each other when we need it most," Sasse said.
