A child died and four other people were injured in a house fire in Blue Springs on Thursday morning.

One child died and four other people were injured following a Thursday morning fire in Blue Springs that is believed to be accidental.

First responders from the Blue Springs Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 213 W. Cherry St. shortly before 4 a.m.

Officials said the house was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived. Firefighters from Beatrice and Wymore also were called to help.

The child who died was found in a bedroom of the home, Beatrice Fire Capt. Corey Lieneman said. Another person was taken to CHI St. Elizabeth with life-threatening burn injuries, while three others were taken to Beatrice Community Hospital in stable condition, Lieneman said.

Officials have not released the names of the victims.

Wymore Fire Chief Mark Meints said about 25 firefighters from the three departments battled the blaze, which destroyed the home and some vehicles outside the house.

“We did make an attempt to enter the house, but the fire was too hot," Meints said. "So we basically had to attack the fire from outside.”

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's office said the fire was accidental. The investigation is ongoing.
The Gage County Attorney's Office has requested an autopsy in the child's death.
