Streaming service Netflix has confirmed that it is trialing a crackdown on password sharing on the platform. Users have reported seeing a screen telling them that if they don’t “live with the owner of this account” they need to get their own. In these trials, users can verify that they are allowed to use the account by entering a code that is sent by email or text. This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so, Spokesperson for Netflix. The company has not yet decided whether this method of verification will be rolled out across its platform. Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Go and Amazon Prime all allow users to create multiple profiles on one account.
