Two people died and three others were injured when two pickups collided on Nebraska 15 on Sunday near Western, according to the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of a 2006 Dodge Ram pulling a 40-foot trailer collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado heading south on Nebraska 15 about a half-mile north of County Road R, or about 5 miles north of Western, a little after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Two people — one from each vehicle — were killed in the crash. One died at the scene,  while the other died after being taken to a local hospital, according to a news release.

Two others in the Silverado and one in the Dodge Ram were injured. Their conditions are unknown.

Family has been notified, but the sheriff's office said it wouldn't identify victims until an investigation is completed.

The Wilber and Western fire departments and first responders from Crete and Fairbury responded to the accident.
