Suicide prevention team plans walk-run on Oct. 3

The LOSS (Lincoln-Lancaster County Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team will present Shoulder to Shoulder: No One Fights Alone run and walk at Holmes Lake Park Oct. 3 from 8 am to noon.

The team is partnering with the Nebraska Statewide Suicide Prevention Coalition for the 5K run and 2-mile awareness walk.

This year's event will focus on the needs of veterans and active duty soldiers. Every day, 22 veterans and one active duty soldier take their own lives.

Register online at eventbrite.com, keyword Shoulder to Shoulder. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for youth. Registering by Thursday guarantees a T-shirt. Race day registration will be accepted.

The LOSS Team consists of trained volunteers, including mental health professionals and those that have lost someone to suicide.

The ultimate goal of the LOSS team is to reduce suicides by getting the proper resources to those in need.
