Four Colorado residents died in a crash on Interstate 80 east of York early Tuesday as drivers navigated slippery conditions following an overnight storm.
The York County Sheriff's Office said three males and a female were killed, but did not provide their ages or other information.
The crash happened just east of the bridge at mile marker 363, between Waco and Utica, at about 7:15 a.m. The driver of an eastbound pickup lost control, and the pickup crossed the median before being struck on the passenger side by a westbound semitrailer.
One person who died was thrown from the pickup; the other three had to be extracted by rescue workers. The semi driver wasn't hurt.
Sheriff's Lt. Paul Vrbka said speed and icy road conditions caused the pickup driver to lose control.
The incident left a stretch of the interstate closed until about 10 a.m.
