Elizabeth Ellen Meyer (née Godsey), 84, died May 12, 2019. Elizabeth was born February 15, 1935, in Bostwick to Robert and Leola (Koester) Godsey. Elizabeth spent most of her childhood and young adult life in Superior, attending school and working from an early age to help support her family. She married Robert Lee Meyer on December 2, 1950. They were blessed with a daughter, Elizabeth L., and twin sons, Mark D. and Clark B. Bob and Elizabeth moved their family to Lincoln in 1960.
Her career included keeping books for many companies, including Platte Valley Construction, which prompted her involvement in the local chapter of Women in Construction (WIC), serving two terms as president. For seven years, beginning in 1979, she owned and operated Elizabeth's Fine Lingerie. At the time, the boutique was unique in providing prostheses, lingerie, and swimwear for mastectomy patients, whom Elizabeth personally fitted with dignity, beauty, and respect.
Following retirement, she and Bob enjoyed multiple world travels, visiting numerous countries on six continents. A gifted seamstress and longtime member and officer of the Lincoln Sewing Guild, Elizabeth enjoyed refinishing furniture and, with Bob, renovated their home to her exacting eyes. A woman of gumption, she accomplished whatever she set her mind to do. She was the cherished matriarch of her biological and “adopted” family members, loved animals, and befriended anyone she perceived to be in need.
Elizabeth is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Meyer (Mark Fuhrer); daughter-in law, Judy Meyer; grandchildren, Terri Meyer (Jim Spallin), Elspeth Walker (Rene Longoria), Robert B. Meyer (Jessica), Jeannie Croner (Brett), Bryan Meyer (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Marlena, Robert H., Caitlynn, Sophia, Andrew, Molly, Matthew, Elsa, Nate and Nikki; great-great-grandson, Noah; sister, Roberta Wehr; brother, Chuck Godsey (Pat); nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, including “adopted” children Steven Richards and Paula Pace. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bob; sons, Mark and Clark, and daughter-in-law, Holly; nephew, Don Wehr, as well as her parents and brother, William (Bill) Godsey.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (1200 S. 40th, Lincoln). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue and TeamMates of Lincoln. Arrangements provided by Butherus, Maser & Love (www.bmlfh.com).
