He was always eagerly awaiting the next adventure and anticipating what lie just beyond. On April 17, at age 93 and 1/2 years, Dayle was “lifted up on angels' wings' to join his Creator and rest in eternal peace after a long life filled with a mixture of joy, accomplishments, some sorrow and sadness.
Born September 25, 1925, to parents, Elmer & Edna Johnson, in Greenwood. Grew up in rural Greenwood/Waverly area. Attended country school and Graduated from Waverly High, went on to UNL.
As a child he had polio, and fought to use his extremities, and as a young man worked on the farm. He was one of seven children. He married Donna Jean Reinmiller in 1946, and had two sons, Redge & Randy. Donna Jean passed from cancer in 1982. Dayle married for a second time to Virginia Crump in 1984 which expanded his family with Virginia's daughters Jill Johnson, Bonnie Johnson & Terri VandenBurg and their three children. Dayle was National Sales Manager for Vita Craft Corp until his retirement and then worked for Images II. His jokes will live on in everyone's memories.
Dayle was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Master Mason-East Lincoln Lodge #210, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Lincoln, Sesostris Shrine, Railroad Club, Shrine Bowl Committee, Royal Order of Jesters, Elks Lodge #80, BPOE.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Donna Jean Reinmiller Johnson, and 2nd wife Virginia Crump Johnson, parents Elmer (Edna) Johnson, brothers, Dwight and Leo; sisters, Lucille Ostman, Vernette Simmons and Joyce Clark. He is survived by his sons; Redge (Marcie) Johnson and Randy (Dixie) Johnson; brother Bruce (Jill) Johnson; daughters, Jill Johnson, Bonnie Johnson and Terri (Robert) VandenBurg; grandchildren, Jamie (Michael) Polick, Adam Johnson, Sam Anderson; great-grandchildren, Jack, Campbell & Hayden Polick, Addison Johnson. Sister-in-law, Lois (Leo) Johnson, brother-in-law, Franklin (Lavern) Oman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Thursday, April 25, at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 8300 E. Pointe Rd, Lincoln, NE 68506. Pastor Jeff Warrick will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 am to 8 pm with family present from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln.
