A slushy, slick mess Sunday could turn into a hard freeze for the Monday morning commute, forecasters say.
The weekend is expected to start sunny and warm in Lincoln, with clouds and an increasing chance of rain moving into the area as Saturday progresses, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday, rain is likely with a chance of snow at about midday. The forecast high is around 38 degrees.
Some parts of eastern Nebraska could get an inch of snow or more, but the Lincoln area should receive no more than a half-inch, according to the Weather Service.
Then temperatures are expected to drop below 30 degrees early Monday.
With frosty conditions expected beginning late Sunday, city crews in Lincoln planned to start spreading anti-ice brine on arterial streets early Saturday.
