Last year's Miss Nebraska, Allison Tietjen, crowns 2018 winner Jessica Shultis on Saturday in North Platte.

Miss Lincoln Jessica Shultis was crowned Miss Nebraska 2018 on Saturday night.

Shultis, a 24-year-old graduate student at Doane University, is originally from Dannebrog. Her platform for the pageant was Hoops for Hope, benefiting Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

A Centura High School graduate, Shultis played basketball at Doane.

Shultis shined in the judge’s eyes with her confidence and well-articulated ideas, said Miss Nebraska Executive Director Rachel Daly.

“It really lies in what the judges see within a contestant, and they liked what she said in her interviews,” Daly said. “They thought she was a confident young woman with good plans for promoting Miss Nebraska.”

Shultis also won Friday’s preliminary evening gown competition with a white Ashley Lauren gown from the Black Swan Dress Boutique in Lincoln.

Shultis competed against 15 contestants from across the state and will represent Nebraska at the Miss America pageant.

Shultis was second runnerup at the Miss Nebraska pageant in 2017.
