Richard Meginnis, left, and Mike James.

Mike James on Thursday announced his support for City Council candidate Richard Meginnis in District 2, southeast Lincoln.

James, also a District 2 City Council candidate in the recent primary election, did not move on to the general.

James said he is honored by the support he got during his campaign. He believes Meginnis is the best choice moving forward to represent District 2.

Meginnis' background in business, public service and as a community leader who can bring people together "will build on my campaign theme of raise the bar," James said.

Meginnis' "ideas are not just typical of one political party or the other. They are good ideas that benefit everyone,” James said.

Both Meginnis and James are Republicans. The other candidate for the District 2 seat is Megan Stock, who is a Democrat. Stock finished first in primary voting, with Meginnis in second and James in third.

District 2 is represented by Councilman Jon Camp, a Republican, who is not seeking re-election after 20 years on the council.
