The Lincoln City Council on Monday voted unanimously to make David Cary the permanent director of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department.

Cary has been serving as the interim director of the department for the past 4½ years. He previously worked in the Planning Department as a transportation planner from 2003 to 2012 and then as the long-range planning manager from 2012 to 2014. He has 25 years of planning experience, having previously worked for the Omaha Planning Department and in the Chicago area.

The Lancaster County Board is scheduled to vote on Cary's appointment as planning director at its meeting Tuesday morning.
