The conference, “Farming & Faith: Holistic Responses to Climate Change,” will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road.

The conference will bring together people of faith from diverse backgrounds in Nebraska to consider the connections between faith and farming in the changing climate.

Keynote speaker will be Doug Dittman, an organic farmer at Branched Oak Farms, owner of the new Hub Cafe in Lincoln and a Soto Zen Buddhist practitioner.

Dittman will present, “The Art of Seeing,” and will talk about how his religious perspectives have influenced his care for the land.

“Ironically, we often take the things closest at hand for granted, and surely food must be somewhere near the top of the list,” Dittman said. “In the not too distant future it's possible we won't have that luxury.

“By 2050 Nebraska will no longer be considered in the Corn Belt, and by 2100 temperatures are expected to climb somewhere between 5 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit with soil moisture levels declining 5 to 10 percent. Anyone currently farming knows that this shift is a game changer for both farming and for our society as a whole.”

“Farming & Faith” is the third annual conference of Nebraska Interfaith Power & Light, a state organization with the mission to guide the faith community’s response to climate change. The organization is nonsectarian and nonpartisan, and welcomes people of faith from all backgrounds to work on constructive solutions, said the Rev. Kim Morrow, director of Interfaith Power & Light.

Registration is $40 per person and $25 for students. Walk-ins are welcome. For information, go to (keyword: Farming & Faith).
