Maddie Lester, daughter of Pamela and Mike Lester, is an eighth-grader at Lux Middle School. “Maddie leads in many ways, especially by example,” school officials wrote. “She is always prepared for class, is able to work well with anyone, and teachers describe her as an all-around great student and person.” A straight-A student, Maddie also volunteers to help with Sunshine, a special ability cheer team at Cheer Xpress. She has competed in dance 10 years and cheerleading nine years, and is on Cheer Xpress’s Level 5 Worlds Team. She recently made the East High reserve cheer team. She enjoys art, reading and spending time with her dogs and friends.
Trevor Nash, son of Kim and Jeremy Nash, is an eighth-grader at Lux Middle School. “Trevor is an exemplary student who is always kind, respectful and courteous to adults and peers,” school officials wrote. “He is a very bright young man who consistently works hard and strives to do his best. Trevor impresses us all, and we enjoy his friendliness, always delivered with that great smile of his!” Trevor is in Jazz Band and Show Choir. He volunteers for the library summer reading program and helps with Vacation Bible School at his church, where he is also a Sunday kids’ song leader and attends Youth Bible Study Group. He enjoys archery and biking.
Brooklyn Shotkoski, daughter of Elizabeth and Damian Shotkoski, is an eighth-grader at St. Peter’s School. Brooklyn was nominated for her consistent academic excellence and her work ethic. “She possesses a willingness to help, and improved greatly from last year in terms of having a positive attitude,” school officials wrote. “She contributes to class discussions and is an asset to her class.” An honor roll student, Brooklyn has also won awards running cross country and track for her school and plays soccer. She has volunteered at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and the Center for People in Need. She hasn’t missed attending church weekly since 2012.
Ella Wemhoff, daughter of Nikki and Chad Wemhoff, is a seventh-grader at St. Michael School. An honor roll student, she is in the 50+ Club for volunteer service hours. She is a Zoo Crew member at Lincoln Children’s Zoo, a Lincoln Marathon water station volunteer and a Kindergarten Reading Buddy. She also plays volleyball for St. Michael. “Ella is a quiet leader in the classroom,” school officials wrote. “She enjoys volunteering her time to work with the younger students. Ella is very empathetic to the people around her.” Ella is in the church choir and Adoration Club. She acted in “Lion King Jr.” at Lincoln Community Playhouse.
