A 22-year-old woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide in connection with a crash that killed a 20-year-old woman last month, according to a news release from the Lincoln Police Department.
At 3:42 a.m. on April 27, Lincoln police officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on North 27th Street between Theresa and Center streets.
The initial investigation determined that Deja Webster, 22, was driving south on 27th Street when she lost control of her vehicle and struck the outer barrier wall of the bridge, crossed over the median and ultimately collided with a tree on the east side of the street.
Jasmyn Chalk, 20, a passenger in Webster's car, was ejected and later died at a hospital.
Lincoln police reconstructed the scene and processed vehicle and roadway evidence and determined that Webster was traveling between 80 and 88 mph within 5 seconds of the collision on a wet street with a posted speed limit of 40 mph.
Alcohol containers and marijuana were found in and around the vehicle, and Webster had a blood-alcohol content of 0.11%, above the legal limit of 0.08%.
