Police are looking for help to identify a suspect in a 2014 sexual assault in Lincoln who was caught on video in a burglary in Colorado three years later.

Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said they were releasing a images from it in hopes of identifying the man, whose DNA tied him to both incidents.

He said the sexual assault happened on Dec. 27, 2014. Bonkiewicz said a 58-year-old woman told investigators she had been talking to a man she didn’t know at a downtown bar that night and he followed her to her car, grabbed her, pushed her into her car and sexually assaulted her.

Bonkiewicz said police were able to recover forensic evidence from her car and learned earlier this year from the Nebraska State Crime Lab that there was a possible match to evidence obtained from a burglary in Denver on Dec. 2, 2017.

He said the DNA from the burglary hadn’t been processed until about 20 months after the crime.

Now, police are hoping someone will recognize the man in the video and help them identify him. It’s unclear if he lives in the Denver area, Lincoln or elsewhere.

Photos from the burglary are posted on Lincoln’s Crime Stoppers website at lincolncrimestoppers.com/long-distance.
