Police work Sunday to investigate shootings on the 2300 block of Southwest 18th Street.

One person is dead and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in southwest Lincoln on Saturday night, according to Lincoln police.

Police and first responders were called to the 2300 block of Southwest 18th Street on a report of a woman with a head injury just before 11 p.m., according to a Lincoln Police Department news release.

When they arrived, two officers were taken inside by the woman who had called 911.

When the officers entered, a 58-year-old man shot and killed himself with a handgun, according to the release.

A 54-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound to her head and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their identities hadn't been released as of Sunday afternoon.

Police say no shots were fired by officers, and investigators from the police's Criminal Investigations Unit are investigating the incident.

There is no ongoing threat to the public's safety, according to the release.
