Lincoln police said one person was killed in a shooting at the intersection of 27th and Holdrege streets on Thursday morning.

At about 9:45 a.m., a man was found dead on the southeast side of the intersection with a gunshot wound, according to Capt. Danny Reitan.

Reitan said police are looking for two men in a white vehicle with front-end damage that was seen heading west on Holdrege Street shortly after the shooting.

One Lincoln man in the area at the time, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he heard several gunshots. Another witness, who also wished to remain anonymous, said he saw two men arguing, then one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other before getting into a car and taking off.

Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said Thursday afternoon that police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

Because of the close proximity to LPD's Central Team station, officers arrived on the scene within a minute of the shooting, Bonkiewicz said.

Clinton Elementary School, 1520 N. 29th St., went into lockout for about a half hour because of the homicide. A lockout means students are kept inside the school and exterior doors are locked.

School officials sent an e-mail to parents mid-morning Thursday saying they were no longer in lockout but they planned to keep students inside for recess and other programming out of an abundance of caution.

The area remained closed off most of the day Thursday as the Lincoln Police Department and Lancaster County Sheriff's Office investigated.
