Police: Man hit by truck after argument about feeding stray cats

An argument about feeding stray cats ended with a 44-year-old Lincoln man hitting the other man with his truck, according to police.

Anthony Whitney stopped his truck at First and Q streets shortly after 4 when he saw a 46-year-old man there feeding stray cats, Lincoln Police Capt. Jim Davidsaver said.

Whitney yelled profanities about the cats and exchanged words with the man, who told police he regularly feeds strays there.

Whitney eventually drove forward, intentionally hitting the other man and knocking him to the ground, Davidsaver said. The man suffered pain but no obvious physical injuries.

Police found Whitney a short time later at a nearby recycling business and arrested him for felony second-degree assault.

Davidsaver said Whitney admitted to confronting a man about feeding cats, but denied hitting him with his truck.

Whitney remained in custody Wednesday night.
