Police are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping Monday afternoon in Lincoln’s Capitol Beach neighborhood.

Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said it happened at about 4:30 p.m. at Lakeview Park at Northwest 20th and Q streets.

He said a 10-year-old girl was sitting in the park when a man she didn’t know pulled her close in a hug. Another 10-year-old girl saw him hug the girl. When he started walking in her direction and waving for her to come with him, the second girl ran to a neighbor, yelling for help, police said.

Two neighbors came to help. One called 911 and followed the man, who started running. But the man, who witnesses said looked to be about 20 years old, got away. Police were not providing more of a description of the man at this time.

Bonkiewicz said police canvassed the area but weren’t able to find him. They are continuing to investigate.
