Accident, 3.29

Firefighters begin packing up after arriving to the scene of a four-vehicle crash March 29 at the intersection of O Street and Lyncrest Drive.

The driver of a car involved in a fatal crash Friday afternoon told Lincoln police he lost control going 65 mph on O Street, according to an accident report.

The crash at O Street and Lyncrest Drive killed Jared J. Williams, 23, of Lincoln, and injured three others.

Williams was a passenger in a 2002 Mercedes-Benz driven by Marvin A. Rivas Villanueva, 19, of Lincoln.

Rivas Villanueva was driving west on O Street at 1 p.m., and as he changed lanes while approaching Lyncrest Drive, he accelerated to between 65 and 70 mph in the 40 mph zone, he told police.

He lost control of his car, then spun into the front of three cars in the eastbound lanes, according to the report.

Williams, Rivas Villanueva, and two other drivers, Candace Coffman and Gina Mailander, were taken to Bryan West Campus.

Williams died of his injuries there.

Citations against Rivas Villanueva are pending further investigation in the crash.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as factors in the crash.
