Police arrest suspect in shooting at north Lincoln apartment complex

Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting at a Belmont apartment complex in the early hours of July 5, according to court and jail records.

Deandra C. Welch, 27, of Lincoln, was arrested Friday night and has been charged with three weapons charges in the shooting.

Just before 4 a.m., a group of four men tried to join a gathering at The Willows apartment complex, 1800 Knox St., when an argument broke out, Officer Angela Sands said.

One of the four, who were not invited to the gathering, fired a handgun before they left, Sands said.

No one was injured.

Witnesses identified Welch as the shooter, Capt. Danny Reitan said Monday.

Welch was charged with shooting at an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm to commit a felony and second-offense felon in possession of a firearm.

If convicted of each count, he faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison.

He remained in jail Monday on $150,000 bond.
