Lincoln police say they have arrested the 19-year-old man at the wheel in the March 29 crash near Gateway Mall that claimed the life of his passenger.
Marvin Rivas-Villanueva was booked into jail Monday on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide for the crash at O Street and Lyncrest Drive that killed 23-year-old Jared J. Williams.
Officer Angela Sands said the initial investigation determined that Rivas-Villanueva had lost control of a 2002 Mercedes-Benz while driving west on O Street and spun into oncoming traffic.
Williams was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Rivas-Villanueva, and the drivers of two other vehicles, Candace Coffman and Gina Mailander, were taken to a hospital with injuries.
Sands said police interviewed multiple witnesses and learned Rivas-Villanueva had been revving, accelerating and speeding before losing control of his car and crashing.
She said police crash investigators processed the evidence and confirmed he was driving at least 70 mph on the wet road during heavy traffic before the collision.
The speed limit there is 40 mph.
Rivas-Villanueva hasn't yet been charged.
