A security guard at a north Lincoln bar shot a patron in the shoulder amid armed attacks on the security there early Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.
Police on Monday provided more information on the encounter during bar close at La Cabana, 3223 Cornhusker Highway.
As members of the Elite Security team working there tried clearing patrons from the bar, two men in the parking lot carrying knives approached a 41-year-old guard, according to police.
One of the men, identified as 27-year-old Carlos Sanchez, began slashing at the guard who wrestled with him over the knife, Officer Angela Sands said.
Sanchez dropped the knife.
While the guard had him in a chokehold, Sanchez continued punching him in the head, she said.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old guard told police he was attacked by three men.
One man was on top of the guard, punching him when he fired two warning shots, but the men kept assaulting him, she said.
So he shot one of the attackers, a 32-year-old man, in the shoulder.
That man was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The 25-year-old guard who fired his gun was also treated at a local hospital for cuts and scrapes.
Officers recovered a knife at the scene.
Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
His arrest is the only one so far, but Sands said the investigation continues.
