A nearly head-on crash Tuesday morning at the Big X near the Devaney Sports Center sent five people to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

It happened shortly before 8:45 a.m. at Antelope Valley Parkway and Salt Creek Roadway.

Lincoln Police say Kurt Geisinger, 67, was turning left onto Salt Creek Roadway in his BMW 535 when he collided with Patricia Wheeler, 51, who was heading south in a Dodge Intrepid on Antelope Valley Parkway.

A witness told police Geisinger had a flashing arrow. Wheeler had a green light.

Both drivers and three passengers in Wheeler's car, ages 9, 20 and 31, were taken to a hospital. Wheeler initially was trapped, according to the accident report.

Police ticketed Geisinger for failure to yield.
