Metro Fugitive Task Force and Lincoln drug investigators arrested a man Monday night who is wanted for murder in Mississippi.

Stephon D. Clay, 23, of Clarksdale, Mississippi, was arrested at an apartment in the 4600 block of Orchard Street at 10:30 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.

Clay, who is a suspect in a 2016 shooting in Clarksdale, is being held at the Lancaster County jail and at a brief hearing Tuesday afternoon waived his right to fight extradition.

"I'm going back," he told County Judge Joseph Dalton.

The move means Mississippi authorities are to pick Clay up within 10 business days to return him to the state.

The Marshals Service said Clay was seen acting suspiciously near the federal courthouse in Lincoln on Monday, which led authorities to look into his identity and whereabouts.

They later found him at the French Quarter apartments and arrested him, Lincoln Police Officer Angela Sands said.

Details on the 2016 murder case weren't available Tuesday afternoon.
