Try 3 months for $3

A 37-year-old Lincoln man was taken to a hospital, then to jail Monday after Lincoln police say he was hit in the head with a sledgehammer when he tried to break in to a home in the Bethany area.

Just after 2 p.m., Willie Bailey went to the home in the 6500 block of Garland Street and tried to get into the home of a married couple, Officer Angela Sands said.

The man had an ongoing dispute with a 28-year-old man who lived there, Sands said.

As Bailey tried to bust open the door, the resident hit him in the head with a sledgehammer.

Bailey was temporarily knocked unconscious. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the resident there was acting in self-defense when he hit Bailey, Sands said.

After he was cleared by doctors, Bailey was taken to jail on suspicion of vandalism and disturbing the peace.
