A Lincoln man found guilty at trial of illegally possessing a rifle in connection with a shooting in a downtown parking garage last year has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.
Jamare Sidney, 34, is a convicted felon, so he's barred from possessing firearms.
Lincoln police said Dec. 17, Sidney retrieved a rifle from the trunk of a car in a parking lot near 14th and N streets and pointed it toward the ground. While calling for backup, an officer heard gunshots, then saw Sidney put the rifle in the trunk.
One of the gunshots struck a car in the garage. No one was injured.
Sidney got away, but later was pulled over near 18th and L streets.
At trial in September, he denied possessing the Zastava Serbia model N-PAP M70 that police found in the trunk. But the jury found him guilty.
Lancaster County District Judge Lori Maret denied Sidney's motion for a new trial and sentenced him Monday. He will have to serve 6½ years before he's eligible for parole.
